there is also the possiblity that the road is man made. perhaps by the prometheus prior to landing because they are using wheeled vehicles and the road is roughly the same size as the vehicle bay..maybe the ship has a plasma cannon or somthing

I like the idea that it could be Nasca line like formations. It ties in to the ancient astronaut angle and neatly explains the roads, that I personally don't feel would have been a priority of the crew.
