I think we'll find habitable worlds a[i] very[/i] long time before we figure out a way to get there[i] practicably[/i]. An unmanned probe is one thing.....human exploration, colonization and resource exploitation is quite another. IMO, that just isn't going to happen, until our understanding of Physics is advanced [i]far[/i] beyond its' current state.

Back to the movie...
That is why I think the SJ space ship connects to a larger ship where they exchange found and merged life and continue to orbit around the universe searching and experimenting. The larger ships have huge orbits across the universe as shown in the star map room. Since physics are obyed and faster that light travel is not possible these ships need to have very very long life spans/usefulness. The best way to keep a space ship around for thousands of years without having it fall apart is to make it organic and self repairing....
