MemberOvomorphApr-18-2012 10:07 AMits just a foot .... in bad shape ... i think they thought that was more effective to show a foot hanging than a shoe ..

MemberOvomorphApr-18-2012 10:11 AMYeah Dude, I was gonna tell you the same, that's just her leg hanging not the whole Lambert.

MemberOvomorphApr-18-2012 10:11 AMWhat about that wonky looking big toe?
Have never seen any discussion of that.

MemberOvomorphApr-18-2012 10:17 AMSomething that a lot of people don't know is that in the original script she was suppose to get burnt with Parker's flamethrower by accident of course and then the Alien would take a bite out of her but this was changed in the many revisions made by Fox.

MemberOvomorphApr-18-2012 10:34 AMI,ve always thought about this scene like:
The Alien, like a praying mantis with a grasshopper in its claws, devouring Lambert by the head, and she, in her death rattles, looses her shoe

MemberOvomorphApr-18-2012 10:38 AMdang, never saw Lambert's lone foot. Will have to back and review that scene. Are we to assume she was torn apart? The tail up the leg was supposed to infer "she mates then she kills" scenario according to those that follow Giger's motives.

skyguy1054
MemberOvomorphApr-18-2012 10:45 AMLook closely. Lambert is wearing cowboy boots for the entire movie. The tail we SEE goes up between the legs of someone wearing sneakers. The shot they used for this was Harry Dean Stanton's feet, substituted for Lambert's. She mentions this in ALIEN commentary track.
Maybe they thought it would be easier for the ALIEN to remove sneakers than boots? lol

MemberOvomorphApr-18-2012 10:45 AMjust adding that according to some other posts, the film shows Brett's feet when Lambert was getting her's in the death scene. Someone was saying that Brett was wearing sneakers and Lambert was wearing cowboy boots. If that's the case, then boy, a BIG Mickey Mouse whoops for the continuity crew!

MemberOvomorphApr-18-2012 11:04 AMAfter craigamore ruined (I'm joking man) what was the most frightening scene ever!!! I now reckon that the alien nicked Lambert's cowboy boots found a mirror and did a silence of the lambs which was cut because it was 'too scary'
nar really..... what you don't see your mind makes up and yea its a bad image

MemberOvomorphApr-18-2012 7:26 PMAs I recollect In the novelization by Allen Dean Foster, the alien simply smushed her up into the ceiling or wall, kinda like what happens to a bug by us, and that was what ripley was looking at, along with poor Parker. As far as the clothes I don't recollect.

MemberOvomorphApr-19-2012 12:38 AMIf you listen to the audio commentary, RIdley Scott has a more "erotic" interpretation.

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 8:57 AMWell......Lambert doesnt half make some wierd noises over the intercom. I think theres more to that tail between the legs than meets the eye ya know.

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 9:04 AMThe reason you see the alien's tail going between what appears to be Harry Dean Stanton's feet in Lamber'ts death scene is because that is exatcly what it is. That part of the scene with the alien's tail going between the legs was actually from HDS's death scene but was cut and re-used for Lamberts' death scene - they hoped nobody would notice the continuity error of the diffrent footwear. As to the reason she lost her shoe, who knows - originally the Alien was supposed to rape her but supposedly that was never filmed.

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 4:15 PMi belive the xenomorphs to be an experiment that aliens have made thats gone wrong & wipe out there race, this experiment has surivived, it use's the hosts dNA & mutats the host to what you see as the xenomorph, i think the orgins of the xenomorph came from a human host because of the way they look in body wise, because they seem to have the human instinct intelligence to survive. This is why i think the alien took her clothes off as if some part of it was human.

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 4:31 PMAll I saw was a slumping Parker and a dangling extremity dripping with blood. I don't even recall it being a foot, but I've nothing invested in saying it wasn't. It was a brief second or two and you got the hint that Parker and Lambert were goners....Ripley arriving too late, not that Ripley could have done much even if she had walked in seconds earlier. I'm more curious as to why the alien didn't feel it needed to harvest these two like it did with Dallas and Hawaiin Shirt Dude.

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 4:43 PM@ phil LOL good one
@abordoli i wonder if the xeno can sense medical problems in humans and if lambert and parker had any issues like diabetes and such it didnt want them for making eggs because they might not work or may develop inferior?
the species creature sil could sense that, and the xeno is supposed to be able to sense if you have been implanted so maybe its head sensory organ can sense a lot more of the inside of our bodies.
supposedly dolphins can see our brains like an MRI machine so i dont think a xeno doing the same is impossible.

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 4:54 PMWell, my take on that scene going way back when has always been this...
The Alien had sort of been surprised by Parker bravely confronting it face to face.. obviously willing to risk himself to DEFEND Lambert from it. None of the others had really faced it face to face and fought it with their bare hands.
And its natural sort of curiosity having been peeked by that, it then realized that Lambert was different from the others that it had met directly up to that point. She was a FEMALE, and the Alien realized this... and then it played with her like some sick deranged sadist that had just conquered the best of her Male "warrior defenders".... and Parker had been no match for it.
When it was looking down on her it was almost conveying the thought that "I have defeated your best, and now I can do whatever the hell I want to you and there is nothing you or any of your friends can do about it". It is totally without any pity or remorse of any kind. And its like it deliberately leaves Lambert's body as a prop for whoever is left to see what it has done.
Thats what made the Xeno scary sheeet back in 1979.

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 6:09 PMWell, here’s the shot of poor Lambert’s bare, bloodied foot…complete with a broken big toe. Of course, she could just be an ex-ballerina, with that phalange.

For me, there’s no doubt that R. Scott, intended that the audience read a little something more into the death of Lambert, in comparison to the demise of the rest of the crew. From the stalking, the slow attack, the quasi-phallic tail, the bare, mangled foot, to the heavy, “giving birth” sounding breaths from Lambert…all intended to provoke a kind of psychosexual, violation, and rape-like event/atmosphere.
At least, that’s what I pick up on in that scene. So, I suppose my take is nothing revolutionary, as a lot of us have similar ideas. Beautifully shot though…nothing graphic…implications only. Some other lesser director, would probably have shown more, thereby killing the most terrifying of personal imaginings.

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 6:42 PMAnybody who's an Alien fan to fanatic has an idea of what the undertones that may lie behind Lamberts death told from RS. I may be wrong from any individual query but this topic and the thought of wanting to elaborate deeper on it at anytime makes me question some individuals. What the scene may have interperated is disturbing. I say this topic should be left alone. There so much more to the movie than to dwell on what the xeno did to Lambert.

MemberOvomorphApr-24-2012 5:08 PMI'm on the boat that doesn't think that anything else happened here but a simple double-killing. No hanky-panky. I think by this time, however, the Alien was "toying" with the remaining humans like a cat does with a mouse before fatally killing it (though they often exhaust it to death and it goes into shock).
