Chatting to a mate in the Pub tonight we were talking Alien, Aliens, etc and dicovered a funny thing (well to me anyhow) ... Alphabet Androids throughout the Alien movies ... I must admit it never clicked before lol ... I know slow :) ...

Ridley Scott did addresses this in an early interview, and did say it was on purpose to continue alphabetical names, even though this film is set before all other Alien films...I'll try but doubt I can find that interview.
