Could there have been a better cast movie?

@craig: Theron has too much of a "southern drawl" to play a realistic android for me...if that's in fact what she is ;)

RS has an exceptional abiltity for casting I see this trend with every one of his films. He just has a great foresight and has an exceptional ability to produce great work from his actors.
I also don't like the term "lesser" actors but even those who aren't main roles in the film I'm sure will do an outstanding job to provide Ridley Scott realism to his world.

No I don't think any so called famous actors/actreses could have pulled it off! I mean homestly could you see Natalie Portman as Shaw? NO WAY MAN!!

Well, Synth, I dare say Noomi and Fassbender are far more "on the upward curve" than Portman (whose acting style I never cared for, if I'm being honest). So obviously, I feel the answer to your question is a BIG NO, lol.

Everyone was well cast in this movie. That said, Cate Blanchett could have played Vickers also. Lord knows, that woman is a bad-ass when it comes to acting. I like Charlize Theron, but she can't play everything. Kelly Hu could have played Vickers. For those who saw X2, she knows she played that cold, hardcore-type quite well as Stryker's assistant. But, in all fairness, this cast seems to mesh well.

@ Synth: I agree wholeheartedly. Portman comes across as artificial and boring. In nearly every movie I've seen her in, she always seems to be sad. I don't know what on the Academy Awards board was smoking, but Portman did not deserve the Best Actress award for Black Swan. Speaking of which, I didn't get what all the hoopla was about regarding that movie! Just another piece of Hollywood-made junk...

@Lord Ennio
I agree I mean she's just tooooooo much of a little girl and YES the acadamy dissapionted me very much that year! Noomi on the other hand is excellent and her performances are always unique and interesting!

I dont know Portman could have pulled it off.
But i think Ridley wanted something fresh, some fresh faces and pretty much simular as to the actors that JJ Abrams used in Cloverfield where their actors was not so well known, but i think that movie did ok.
This actors are better than those used in Cloverfield as far as credibility and experience goes, Pierce, Theron and Fassbender are pretty much quite known actors etc.

Wish Ridley had directed and casted the 3 Star Wars prequels in that case. Hayden Christensen is a whiny little bitch in all the movies he does

Honestly...I would say the casting, so far, looks just about right.....although, and I'm not saying it's bad, there does seem to be something funny about the way Theron plays Vickers....can't put my finger on it yet....

Less well known actors? There isnt a single actor in this film that isnt seriously established - Fassbender has already been widely acknowledged as the best young actor of his generation and teh next 'Daniel Day Lewis ' (crimnally overlooked for Shame at this years oscars), Theron is an oscar winner, Rapace has blown up, they still argue today is The Wire the greatest cable show or is it the Sopranos - and Idris was largely responsible for that, Sean Harris, Kate Dickey and Rafe Spall are some of the most beloved English talent there currently is (Sean Harris is PERFECT casting) and Guy Pearce is well ...just bloody Guy Pearce!! Good lord.
If I had one reservation - from what Ive seen - its Logan Marshall Green. Poor man's Tom Hardy (who Im sure Ridley would have bitten your hand off for if he was available)

Riley has made one casting mistake, and that was in Kingdom of Heaven. While I have already seen Noomi in a couple of roles before she did English language films, this will most likely launch her in the US. Natalie portman was a great child actress, problem is that she never got better. I hated the black swan as well, thought it was pure dreck. I can see a few of the cast could be interchanged with other actors/actresses, but the ones selected are not bad casting choices.
As for Vickers, I say she the natural born daughter of Mr. W, and is cold and synth like as she figures what dear old dad wants.

I feel that RS does a great job at finding hidden gems for some of the main acting spots in his movies. Yes he has been known to go back to certain actors, such as Russell Crowe but such actors are truely gifted and can take on numerous roles without an audience having doubts in ability. I personally prefer actors that do not have a defined "character" that follows them from movie to movie. Besides Charlize Theron and Guy Pearce I don't really know much about the actors in Prometheus and Theron and Pearce are great actors in my book.
