The Engineers and Weyland are both evil

Speaking of terrible endings, a story that has an "all about everything" perspective is the latest version of Battlestar Galactica, which had that whole idea of the crew being the ancestors of human kind. Prometheus is dealing with the same issues of human origin, so I kind of wonder if, in the end, we are supposed to be the creations or the children of the engineers. Of course, with the temple resembling a sacrificial altar more than anything else, maybe there is going to be a whole other twist on it.

I can see a "happy" ending only to Shaw (meaning strictily: not being eaten), but a very distasteful one. I think she will take off with the safe boat, find a nice orbit, send a help message and go to hypersleep. Maybe you remember that it is well into the capabilities of the escape pod, if we believe Weyland Industries site. Also, the hypersleep chamber runs on "[i]Zero-loss lithium ion batteries in a tertiary backup system[/i]" that "[i]support the chamber’s function for up to 100 years in case of emergency[/i]." I think she will appear in the sequel. I also used to think about a happy ending to David (albeit most droids in Alien universe don´t do well), but the rumours about a decapited David quickly changed my mind...

I kind of hope that Ridley took the whole idea of a corrupt civilization to the furthest degree, with the Engineers, like making them just the sickest most insane, perverse creatures since Culigula.

Yeah, you kind of hope they don't kill off Shaw, that would be kind of harsh.

Maybe they're just misunderstood

It would be unsatisfactory for Shaw to die, it wouldn't play well for the audience, although I think she should...sometimes, faith doesn't prevail, that's a fact of life. But David, well....is s whole different situation, running parallel to Shaw's story. I believe he does survive as much as I believe in the artistry of this dazzling PR campaign projected at the public by probably the greatest mind committed to selling an idea through modern media. The "engineers"....they aren't evil, they're merely of the impersonal universe around us...its us that isn't prepared to deal with the totality of that....not yet. And Weyland? He's just human...a greedy arrogant asshole who's afraid of death just like the rest of us...and thinks he might have the key to live forever...in some fashion or another. Evil is a matter of perspective.

The engineers so far seem to be the cthulhu mythos of the series, which follows the cosmicism of HP Lovecraft; we are insignificant in the larger scheme of the cosmos.

The reason Ridley has a dont trust authority attitude is because he was a little boy during world war 2, he was 8 when hitler and the nazis where destroyed by the allies, so in his mind he has experienced living through an age where powers and powerful groups have caused massive damage and harm. I dont think weyland industries is evil though i think weyland industries is like Apple with steve jobs. Weyland is an easily excited company trying to break new technology ground and space exploration but what comes next is evil. Weyland-yutani corp run by a board of greedy illuminati members is out to find the secrets to control the universe under the bullshit disguise of "Building better worlds".
