Weyland wants David to find something on the planet LV-223 that will let him live forever. Those pictograms that are centuries apart depict the same figure, so Weyland thinks it's the same alien who has figured out the secret to an extra long life span. In return, he will give David 8 his own space ship that will let him explore the universe.

Lol you beat me to it, oh well i should have got to point instead of a Essay lol.
But yes the clues have all fitted together and i think i have sussed out many parts of the plot but i am not sure of posting as i dont want to spoil it for some. Then again i could be wrong with my theories.
