Alien Derelict LV 426 already explained....

Hi i know this subject has come up a number of times, but i think it has been explained maybe as good as we are goin to get, unless Ridley expands upon it after Prometheus has been released and in interviews and maybe we would get it explained in a more detailed way via interview on the DVD Extras of Prometheus etc.. I do not think this movie will touch upon or go to Explain the Mystrey of the Derelict and its Cargo in LV 426... But this movie will explain the purpose of the Engineer/Space Jockey, what a Derelict is and indeed how it comes that Organisms like the Xeno come about.... This gives us some more clues than we had prior to Prometheus, which allows us to then fill the gaps when we look at Ridleys Explanation. He has already explained Alien..... i think he will explain it again to get it clearer in future interviews... but not in this movie and maybe Prometheus 2. OK here is goes.... Ridley when making this movie and after talked about the subject of Alien and the Jockey/Derelict. The Questions raised was.... 1) Who was the Jockey (the big guy) he said he was some race in a space suit and indeed Prometheus will show this..... 2) What was the ship the Derelict, this movie will show us what the ship is and give us a understanding of what kind of role it can perform (intersteller Carrier that can carry cargo to be used to Teraform, Bio Form or even Erase Life.... 3) What was its Cargo.... well this got found out in Alien and Aliens. The other Questions.... Why was it on LV 426? Why did it land? Why did it have that Cargo? How did they get that Cargo? Where was it going? Have all been covered by Ridley recently... He has confirmed that the Engineer was carrying a Cargo that could potentially act as a Bio Weapon on board his Juggernaught ship. The destination is unknown and never told so far, but he has said that it had to land on LV426 as a Emergency Landing as one of the Cargo had been comprimised, (a Face Hugger Escaped). It is then obvious that the escaped Organism, was responsible for the end of the Pilot, but he managed to land the ship in what he deemed a safe place where the Organism could do no harm or forfill its potential purpose. The Engineer then set off a warning becon to the rest of his race. We dont and may never know where its destination was... maybe we can gain clues in Prometheus if its revealed that the Engineer intentions to go to Earth was not just because we found their world. The creation of the Xeno, again we wont be told i beleave. But after we see what happens in Prometheus and about the Engineer and their experiments. We could have the clues to conclude that the Eggs was either something they came across and took to experment upon, or something they created via some experiment. The purpose unknown, but we know they make a great Bio Weapon, as of if they was indended creation or acidental again we may never know. The time of this event..... Ridley said the Derelict was maybe Millions of years old, this is a figure of speach, it does not imply the Ship was there on Lv 426 for Millions or years, or that it may be that old. Its basically to say that the Engineers are very very old, and we shall see in Prometheus that they may had visited Earth many many thousands of years ago or even longer. Thus the Derelict as a means of transport a means of Teraforming and Bio Forming Worlds is also very old.... Millions? who knows certainly maybe houndreds of thousands of years. So the Mystrey will never be told, but after Prometheus we can have more clues to finally better speculate on what happened. As for sure whats known and already told has been this.... Engineer/Space Jockey are a Ancient Godlike Race of Bio Engineers, and Gardeners of Life. The Derelict being their means of traveling to planets to perform that task and carry the tools required to accomplish it. One Engineer had a mission to carry a Cargo of one of its creations or findings to a unkown destination, one of its deadly cargo escaped and caused the pilot to then land his ship on a remote and uninhabitable location as the pilot would no longer be able to compete his mission as indended as he became a victim to the Xeno. So while it would have been nice to find out more on this, Ridley did not want to end up doing a whole movie dedicated to the Xeno, and i guess he could have just as above give us a vague explanation to the events..... But he already has from his interviews on Prometheus... I expect he will come out and explain the events after the movie is out, just as i have sumerised above, but dont expect he would ever cover it in a movie.

Great post. I think a lot of people just get caught up in the "we're gonna get answers and explainations" bit and don't really think about everything. Like you said we have a lot of answers already. I've stated before and I'll say it again, I think questions are way better than answers most of the time. The mystery of the first film was what was so great.

Having kind of been given some ideas about Prometheus thats if the two people i heard off are not making it up... Then yes it seems thats the way things will go and thus see my other thread on Alien = Batman as a medication for any fanboys.... I think Ridley will give us our answers, i think he would come out and say pretty much as above... i expect him to say like. "yes, i thought there was a lot of potential behind the Engineer race and that was the main focus in Prometheus, regarding Alien indeed those events occuried many thousands years prior, the Engineers had created (or found) a Organism that had become to dangerous to keep around, and they dispatched that Cargo to be quarantined, only the Pilot could not complete his mission to take the Cargo to the desired location and LV 426 was the closest place that he could safely quarantine it while he still had time left after becoming a host for one of the Cargo that escaped" Unless off course he would go for the its a Bio Weapon used for some ancient War between rival Engineers or some other species... in which case maybe some where down the line in Prometheus Franchise we may find out who the Engineers would be having any wars with... We just dont know yet untill after Prometheus... and it sounds like Promethus 2 would have to answer many questions that Prometheus will leave unanswered and i am not talking about those from Alien.

But what if Is the Engineering "slaughtered" remains in quarantine at LV 426? By the way great thread man, and I also think the mystery is the essence of Alien and probably will not get all the answers in Prometheus...

In some ways it's kind of nice not to get all the answers, everytime I watch Alien and the other movies I get something new out of it or think of another explaination. I mean sure if he wants to tell us where the Xenomorphs came from I'll watch the movie and most likely throughly enjoy every bit of it. However, I'm pretty sure Ripley is most likely done with that stage and creation, not just because of what other film directors did too it, but just to move on.

I purpose that the reason of hostility on the Engineer's part might actually pertain that questions are better than answers- Maybe they don't want any humans to find out what's going on rather than simply kill them just because they can... I think that the Engineers don't want any of their technology to be exploited so that the human race in it's entirety don't create even more advanced WMDs to kill each other. And possibly that's the reasoning for eliminating the humans that find them. I mean, wouldn't you be enraged to find that your creation destroyed itself in your wake whilst you were tending to something else?

I think thats the thing Ridley wants it to remain a Mystery.... But one where we know that the Space Jockey is some one in a Space Suit. That the kinds of stuff they get upto can lead to the creation of Organisms that share DNA with the Xeno and are simular but different... thus this helps us join the dots that the process that created the Xeno is not far off the Process that some of the Organisms in Prometheus share. That the Engineers had a history of having something go pear shapped and wipe them out, do we conclude what ever killed them nearly all off could be the Xeno... or indeed they never learned from the Xeno and simply created something else that wiped them nearly all out. The actual facts that Ridley confirmed are that the ship was taking a cargo of eggs somewhere, and that due to a escape of one of the Organisms the Pilot could not complete his mission as intended and had to land on LV 426 instead. So the only questions left, that may not get answered but we now have more clues to potentially the answer are.... 1) How, Why and When was the Xeno/Eggs created..... 2) And What Purpose.... who was they intended for? Those are the two things we dont have a clear answer on and may never get. But we are offered more clues than we had at the end of Alien...

@Bishop_341B And thats my thoughts aswell... You see if you are the last of your kind, the last of so called Gods/Kings. If you see and find out how your creation or maybe not, has advanced from the stage that they was maybe when you last encountered them. You know that mankind now has technolgy to reach the Stars and your outpost, they have the ability to create their own artificial life in Synthetic Andriods. They have come a long way in being able to Teraform Worlds, advancements in genetics, and ability to cure many deseases or create new ones. This human race now knows where you live, they come into your house, and they even then try to mess about with the very Technology that allowed you to create, seed and modify life. Weyland said we are the Gods now..... Well once/if this last Engineer dies...... Mankind will get its hands on their secrets their fire.... With no more Engineers left, and thier secrets in the hands of mankind... MANKIND NOW BECOME THE NEW GODS.... This i feel would not settle well with our Engineer.

Hello, everyone I'm new to this forum.But i've noticed something during the last preview these spacejockeys must be bombers because they remind of the coldwar (SAC) bomber pilots in full gear when they're in the air ready to drop they're payloads. Just an observation this is my first time posting sorry if i'm off topic.

@martymar Hi I'm not sure on the delivery mechanism for anything on those ships, and i think the gear they are wearing is more to do with surviving space travel....but I see what you're saying and like the image. There's a Black Sabbath album cover called Never Say Die....reminds me of that. Thanks for sharing M

@BigDave Excellent post as ever BD. Very occam's razor ish. It did occur to me though....as a complete curve ball: People say that the planet in Prometheus is not the same as the one in Alien. The two MAIN reasons (there are others) are that...it's a different LV designation and that the terrain around the crashed derelict in ALIEN is way too rocky. People have speculated already that the powerful Weyland corp could re-designate the planet.... What if as a result of the events of Prometheus..at the climax, the SJ's in an attempt to stop humanity ever stealing their tech, blow up the "Temples"...that would make for a very boulder covered landscape and account for the additional damage we see to the ship in ALIEN. I'm not totally sold on that because I think the SJ in ALIEN is not who we see in the chair in PROMETHEUS...unless that changes in the end with the engineer in the suit trying to lift off in the stricken ship. I also think that the jars become eggs as part of the crash...the internal ampules smashing and the resultant mixture mutating into face hugger creatures inside the jars and the jars themselves while retaining much of their shape, mutating into what we see as eggs. I say this because I think the differences between the two ships in the two films is purely caused by age and death....the ship being a bio mechanical structure...what we see in ALIEN is a more decaying, altered and skeletal ship...but was originally the one we see lift off in Prometheus. A stretch...but I just don't buy "2" ships crashing on the surface of planets in that region in roughly the same configuration. It seems too much. What are they accident prone.....Kind of like the Mr Beans of the universe? Am enjoying the speculation this morning... In a world where Chelsea can win the Champions league...anything is possible ; ) M

Yes i guess we dont know what the idea behind it could be... Maybe thats why that one poster keeps going on about time travel, and that Prometheus some how travels back to LV 223 in the past, thus Millions or years ago and that the Derelict that crashes in this movie stays there for Millions or years or what ever untill Nostromo finds it.... Thats interesting and could explain how the terrain and apearence of the moon could change... but how come they dont find any wreckage of the Prometheus or remains of Temples in Alien/Aliens but find the Derelict and ship in good shape... We just dont know if there is a connection in this movie or if those will be explained. I was told the movie ends with more unanswered questions, it basically had no ending at all... The person who told me that has not spoilt the movie, he did say that there is a posibility that the events of this movie could had led to Alien only if so it would have to be covered and connected in Prometheus 2... If not that, then it would be going for either a reboot or about a different creature and story...

Time travel is weak . What does god need with a starship . And would shaw keep her faith when maybe asked to do something that questions her morality. But ridley said hes tired of gods . He also said the movie be out like 2 years ago .

Yes i think Time Travel would not be a ideal way of doing things or a Alternative Universe, i dont want to see Shaw and David enter a Worm Hole or something happens that causes a tear in Space and Time...

I will do a refresh of this Topic in Detail some time soon, the Topic will be LV 426 and Space Jockey Incident... where i will go through every Clue in the movie Franchises and Comments by Ridley and provide what i think could have happened based on them and leave it free for others to explain what they think happened but try to keep it within the realms of following Actual Clues....

But here is a brief recap of what i think they are hinting at however there are some flaws with this which i will cover when i make this new topic soon!

About 2200 years ago a Engineer Ship leaves either LV 223 to go to a unspecified destination but only gets as far as LV 426, or it is leaving a unspecified destination but heading towards LV 223. But only gets as far as LV 233

The Engineer/Space Jockey gets infected via his Cargo as something gets lose, knowing that he is infected he then heads for the nearest Baron Moon/Planet to Quarantine his Cargo and Warn his fellow Engineers/Space Jockey his Cargo has become Compremised. While he attempts to land the Derelict he then starts to go through the Chest Burtsing Event...

There are a number of problems and contradictions to this most likely event above....

Ridley has released a number of comments that contradict.... the mains ones are..

1) "Why did he have that Egg Cargo" This implies Ship was carrying Eggs.

2) Recently Ridley said "something had evolved in the Cargo Hold and Got out of control" This could hint that the Cargo had evolved into Eggs.

This newest comment by Ridley contradicts the Derelict did not get far... we have to assume how fast does something Evolve within that Cargo Hold within a time frame of the journey that could be relatively short..... another problem is the Gestation Period of a Chest Buster... form Face Hug to Chest Burst is a matter of 24 hours usually but we have to assume this would still be at least 8 hours.... how far can a Engineer Ship get within 8 hours at least... we have to assume much futher than LV 223 to LV 426

We have the Acid Burn near the Space Jockey, which usually means the Organism is wounded... but maybe there is another way it can burn a hole....

The most logical answer to fit within all that is said is the Ship may have had the Urns but something got into the Cargo Hold and got infected with the Goo, the Engineer investigated and Got infected with the said Organism and the Organism after Chest Busting then went down and used its own Genetic Material to Evolve the Eggs.

Ridley said the event happened within 200 years of the Engineer downfall and outbreak on LV 223 some 2000 years ago....

The Mural and Frescos show they was aware of Face Huger related Organisms and Eggs, and so its safe to assume the Space Jockey event either happened 200 years prior and they found the result of such event interesting and spent the next 200 years experiementing on such things...

Or that the Xeno related DNA strand was in some form known even prior to 200 years before the outbreak...

There really is so many unanswered questions and vague clues and contradicting ones or clues that dont add up... and i will cover these in that Topic i will start some time soon.

Ridley had given us some clues to the Derelict Purpose years ago... he said was the Derelict and Space Jockey transporting Bio Weapons or was it something they used to clean up a Planet....

These comments came years ago before Aliens.... his latest comments related was that these Engineers Cary those Urns, that are Biological Drums of £$!" that they drop onto a World to wipe out life....

Looking at these leaves us with two answers....

1) The Origin of the Xeno was used as a Bio Weapon or to Clean up Worlds and they futher carried out experiments upon those Eggs and DNA to create many kinds of Bio Weapons.

2) The Engineers experimented with the Goo to reset life but then created something at some point via the Goo that they then decided to use instead.

As far as the movie comming out, it now appears that work is getting underway as far as comming close to starting Pre-Production and its safe to assume the movie would be out sometime by Fall 2016 or before Summer 2017

Will it answer the LV 426 Question... i doubt it but it could provide futher clues that send us on a path to make a more clearer Assumption....

But in a nut shell we know what happened, that is Space Jockey = Infected by something in the Cargo Hold = set course to Quarantine the Cargo and send a Warning Beacon. The event occured either few hundred years after LV 223 outbreak of few hundred before. And the Derelict was either heading towards LV 223 or leaving LV 223
