We dont know why that 2000 year old was given... It may be another part of the Alien explanation puzzle... Maybe linking what happened to those Engineers 2000 years ago as a way to explain how the Derelict on LV 426 was there for a long time.... This would be assuming that the Organism at the end of the movie is something new and not the Proto Xeno... As if Ridley wanted that scene to be the Proto Xeno, then it would had been better to had done it on LV 426 etc........ The way its done is either new Organism, or indeed the events of this movie happen prior to Derelict on LV 426 in which case a Prometheus 2 or 3 could Derelict link the events that start from Proto Organism to Eggs on Derelict on LV 426.

It could even explore the possibility that another alien race got involved with 2000 years ago... Jesus could have been a genetically spliced human alien hybrid... Which might explain him capabilities (sorry to any body who is of religion) and THAT could be why they chose to wipe us out... Also, it could explain a fan created arc that events explained in AVP could have been happening, and the engineers did not like us worshiping other alien lifeforms...

This is a very interesting thread! I had glossed over the 2000 years thing....but I am convinced it'll crop up again or at the very least is a significant cue. The rise of Christianity perhaps was their motivator for destroying us. As super advanced beings, perhaps they recognise the dangers of monotheistic worship & perhaps they are also familiar with the inevitable corruption it brings about. I sincerely believe that to get as evolved as the Engineers, a species must shed such narrow thinking and free themselves from the bondage of corruption in all it's forms. The Xenomorph has a purity....'free from delusions of morality' etc... Perhaps they want us destroyed because we have largely become irreversibly perverted and depraved! But who knows....that's why they call it a thesis, doctor....
