Svanya, do you have any more info by chance. In the story, they only refer to "old Ones" as opposed to "old gods". Where does "old Gods" come from? I clearly gathered that the beings traveled from the stars to earth many millions of years ago and populated both the land and ocean alike...That they created the shoggoth to build and such for them. So, was it a shoggoth that chases them at the end?

They are Old Gods. They existed before time.

Ok, I feel like I am asking dumb questions... A little google search and there they are...all the answers! I think I need to go read more Lovecraft, I didn't realize that there is a reaccurring theme in a bunch of his stories that will elaborate on my questions. At the mountains of madness was an intriguing and quick read.
