June 28, 2013I like the Deacon too. That scene is great, it's creepy and icky and then... The Deacon is kinda cute! In the theatre I was thinking "what??" and then it opens its mouth, and totally changes. And like many other scenes I was thinking would be a big disappointment, I was literally laughing with glee. What a horror!
I like them all, I know a lot of peeps feel let down by the life forms but I just loved the expansion of the "family", heh heh. And the " been there done that" argument, while valid, fails to acknowledge that they've never been done so well. These are classic Hostile Space Organisms, totally in keeping with the retro ( there has to be a better word for it than that, I guess classic will have to do) space adventure aesthetic.
You look at Prometheus and you can almost see RS thinking, ok, I have this one chance, and I have a lot to say, and I'm gonna say it all right here. And he did. Yes, it could have been darker, or more serious, or whatever. But what it certainly is, is singular. Old fashioned. An homage to many great things. Now that he's got a sequel, it will be very interesting to see what he does.
Sparty was mentioned in the status bar today, and he said it best: Prometheus is a gift. It's the most modern non modern film maybe ever.
End rabid geekdom. For now.
