What if... Duncan Jones' Moon is part of the Alien universe?

MemberTrilobiteJune 16, 2016As you have probably guessed by now this series of "What Ifs" are curve-ball proposals, proposals looking to extend the fictional universe of the Alien movies, to explore new possibilities within our beloved franchise. So far I have proposed that the USS Sulaco and The USCSS Patna are in fact the same vessel and that the USCSS Nostromo survived destruction by ejecting its thermonuclear core and has since been drifting through space with Brett and Dallas having sired a Queen Alien and a plethora of eggs on board. For my third "What If" I'm going to propose merging the Alien universe with that of another property, but worry not we are not talking about revisiting AvP.
Some fans have speculated the possibility that 1982's Blade Runner, and by extension 1998's Soldier, could exist within the same universe as the Alien movies, with the Tyrell corporation having been mentioned as a former employer for Captain Dallas during Ripleys inquest in Aliens. Fans have speculated that Tyrell and Weyland may have been rival corporations, with their founders being the Bill Gates and Steve Jobs of the 21st century. So what if we add another corporation to the mix, another conglomerate with questionable ethical practices - Lunar Industries.
Lunar Industries is responsible for the running of Sarang Station, an automated mining facility based on the moon that refines and processes Helium-3, an alternative fuel source discovered there. Publicly the base was believed to be fully automated, using the latest in robotics technology until it was uncovered in 2035 that Lunar Industries had been using illegal human clones of Sam Bell, one of their leading astronauts to maintain and run the facility. The sixth clone of Bell, stowing aboard one of the Helium-3 transports returned to Earth and publicly revealed how he and his previous clones had been coerced into running Sarang Station for the past 18 years. As a result of the scandal Lunar Industries stock plummeted.
Could Weyland Corp/Industries have taken over Lunar Industries as the first step in their plans for colonization and exploration? Was Sarang Station the beginnings of the colony where Ellen Ripley was born (Olympia, Luna)?
Sarang Station and Lunar Industries feature in 2009's Moon, the directorial debut of Duncan Jones (Warcraft), son of the late, great David Bowie. The design aesthetic and technology utilized is very reminiscent of Ron Cobb's work on Alien, and could easily be seen as being an extension of the Alien universe. Sarang Station could be featured and/or mentioned in a future Alien movie, its cloning technology a forebearer of that using in Alien Resurrection, and GERTY a forebearer to Synthetics such as David, Ash, and Bishop.
