What are your Alien Covenant concerns?

Arher concern is the size of the cast.I happen t pretty enjoy and the movies,but i know the larger the cast is,the harder it is to get invested in everybody.Let me start with Aliens,it had a couple of marines that barely had any dialogue,those being Wierzbowski and Crowe.Alien 3 has an even larger cast full of unsympathetic prisoners.Alien Resurrection might be a little tighter but still some throwaway characters(Seriously how does Elgyn die before Hillard?She gets my vote for worst Alien character.)Then Prometheus has a larger than necessary cast,and like it's predecessors also pretty much die and we didn't even know their names.It's not a major problem,it doesn't really hurt my enjoyment of theses films.That being said,I actually can't wait for Crudup to die,I can't stand people like him.

A fear has been confirmed guys.Alien Covenant will clock in at about two hours and two minutes 

Two hours might keep me at home waiting for the blu ray unless there was an intermission mid point. I will pre order in either case.

Yeah that's pretty disappointing.I hope it has an extended cut when it comes out,especially if things go wrong.I know Scott doesn't like that type of thing though but who knows.

I have nothing against the length- I just am too impatient to sit in a little chair for that long.

Oh lol.It just seems a bit Prometheus short to me.While I like it,I do feel Prometheus should have been longer,it would have had more time to answer some questions.I just hope Covenant doesn't fall into the same trap.

@StanWinston, thats what has me scratching my head? The Peter Weyland files says that he knew about the distress signal from LV-426 at the time of the prometheus mission and were keeping it a secret, so how could david create the classic xeno if he does not go back in time? 

Only a few main concerns for me. One is (a common one) that the characters may not be developed very much as in Prometheus. There was not much time devoted to really getting hooked into the characters. That is a worry, especially with the large cast (as someone mentioned here already). I also think that with the characters all being couples could be an issue. I don't have a logical reason attached to it at this point, but it feels like something could...not click. Like, I suppose if we get a Prometheus treatment of the characters, then it will be tough to care and enjoy that couples aspect when people start dying and their other halves have to push on, or get revenge or yada yada yada. 

The other concern is how the monsters screentime and actions will go. We know that the protomorph(s) and neomorph(s) will see some extensive action and there is the worry that it will just be too much. It is the same almost every time with sequels and prequels to monster flicks, how do you handle that next appearance? It would not feel fresh, scary, or good to treat the Aliens as they did in the original film. It worked once, can't really do it again. Or shouldn't. But from there, it is nearly impossible to change it up, keep some motifs and ideas form the original, and have it turn out well on screen. 

So in short: Character development and monsters' screen time/characterization.

I hope it answers some questions, but not all.

More than anything I want this to be a blockbuster horror/thriller like Alien/Aliens were.

Indeed.Some questions and answers will likely be saved for sequels.

It is cool the action/horror is back but I want to see the creepy stuff David has/is doing and how that plays out.

I am mostly worried that the characters will come off as most the characters in Prometheus, which is either

1. Idiots or
2. Not very interesting

Number one is represented by Shaw or Milburn (I am not sure if I shall put Shaw’s boy-friend there but at least he was dis-likeable), two is for example Ravel and Chance. If they come off as Fifield, Milburn, or Shaw I will be very annoyed and will probably be done with the Prometheus movies but I doubt that they will sink that low. They way that they have been portrayed in the trailers have been good but sometimes a trailer can be one thing and the movie another experience.

One thing that I am a little worried about is that they will make everything too obvious since they got complaint of Lindelof’s vague writing (you got to figure most of it out yourself). Since I am patient and a fan of the Alien thing it makes me having patience and interest in it but for those that are just regular movie watchers it seems to me that it wasn’t built in a satisfying way. I hope that they will give us something that is in the middle of those two although I agree that it was too vague and that we as an audience had to watch it to many times to get the clues. Yes, it was too vague but that doesn’t mean that they need to do it as a A-Z book for kids.

Another thing is that they will make David all too evil, I like that he seems to be that kind of naïve boy that is curious and things go wrong. We have already had Ash in Alien so they need to make him different this time. It will be interesting if he would be curious and do experiments that he doesn’t understand are dangerous but that the consequences of his acts end up in disaster. Think about this: if he is evil then does that means that he wants revenge for how humans treated him? Remember that Weyland said that David didn’t have a soul and he reacted to that. Holloway went on and on about how he (David) wasn’t a real boy and it seems that he got hurt by that. His experience with human isn’t a happy one so I am worried that he will be all evil in this movie.
