As many of you know Alien 3 is my favorite movie in the franchise. It was the last time an alien-movie had enough well-written characters to make it interesting. One of the characters that really stood out was Dillon portrayed by Charles S Dutton, he did great work there. He has many interesting lines and scenes and looking at the history of the scripts that lead into Alien 3 they really did something good when writing his part.
Correct me if I'm mistaken but I think that they developed his character from the Ward script. Don't take this wrong but to me it seems like Alien 3 is a kind of Ward remix, like how you make different remixes to songs. This remix is really good What I like about Dillon is how his relationship to Ripley develops. First he is antagonistic to her and questions most of what she says. He doesn't like her and doesn’t believe her.
Dillon is like the de facto leader there over the prisoners, their spiritual leader and so on. When things go to shit he finally starts to listen to Ripley and when you see him a bit into the movie when she asks him to kill her you can see that he has a hard time to do it. Part of this was because she could be used to fight the Xeno but also you can see that he has come to appreciate Ripley as a person. This kind of character-development is one of the things that makes Alien 3 great. He went out with a death that kind of fitted his character. Dillon gave the Xeno what he could, but he probably realised that it was over by then. Great character from a very good movie.
