So a couple weeks ago after months of silence Noah Hawley talked a little bit about the upcoming Alien series for Hulu. What he said more or less was that the series would focus on inequality with the Alien eventually coming into the picture. I'll post the interview so nothing is really out of context.
Now unsurprisingly a lot of fans have gotten up in arms and are saying Alien is going "woke".
Is it though?
Since Alien and especially through the initial trilogy there has always been a sense of inequality. Alien was about a group of blue collar workers deemed expendable by a company more concerned with the money that can be made by such a unique specimen. Aliens doubled down on this by a whole colony and a colonial marine corp being used to procure specimens. And I think this line from Ripley from Alien 3 certainly gets the point across.
"When they first heard about this thing, it was crew expendable. The next time they sent in marines; they were expendable too. What makes you think they're gonna care about a bunch of lifers who found God at the ass-end of space? You really think they're going to let you interfere with their plans for this thing? They think we're crud, and they don't give a fuck about one friend of yours that's died. Not one."
While it remains to be seen if the series will actually be any good, but I do think people are taking the whole inequality bit maybe a little too serious. It's always been there. What are y'all's thoughts on this?
Nothing the God of biomechanics wouldn't let you in heaven for
