Just finished watching Alien: Earth episode 4 and once again – lots to unpack. First off, Wendy communicates with the Xenomorphs... She claims cause they "chose" her.

There's some serious malware running rampant in Nibs as well lol... Can't wait to see what she does next. Her random delusion of being pregnant seemed like an odd curve ball but it must have a deeper meaning.

The Chestburster scene at the end was cool, I'll admit the Chestburster design looked great but it communicating with Wendy... I dunno. I worry doing so may demystify the Xenomorph. In my opinion the Alien can't be related to, it doesn't have a Human presence. Why the push to humanize the Xenomorph? Part of me is intrigued, while part of me is concerned there won't be a deeper / insightful or interesting meaning for it.

Also – Boy Kavalier mentions not wanting a "Xenomorph" to explode from his chest if they returned the specimens to Yutani – but when was the Alien given the name Xenomorph in the show? I don't recall Boy learning that's what the name was... Anyone else catch that?

What did you think of Episode 4?

Disney has now officially turned the once dreadful xenomorph into the new baby Yoda (chestburster plushie in stores now!) Wendy doing her deadpan facial expression akin to a literal bird nesting box while chirping and petting a chestburster, Dame explaining to Nibs how a woman's egg is fertilized by the man's sperm and Morrow asking Slightly to steal a xenomorph egg, all combined in dragged-out and cringe worthy scenes with acting so bad I'm starting to wonder if Tommy Wiseau secretly wrote the script. I get that series have filler episodes but this is disappointing garbage. Sorry to put it so bluntly and again it's not my intention to rain on anyone's parade. I'm just speaking from my heart here. This is a high budget production marred by atrocious writing.

Nibs stating that she was pregnant definitely threw me for a loop at first, but as Dame Sylvia was questioning her I started to see how her believed “pregnancy” is probably a manifestation of the trauma she experienced on the Maginot. Nibs is just a kid and wouldn’t know how to cope with what happened, and thus made up this pregnancy in her head as a way to explain the feelings she has (plus a “trauma pregnancy” fits in nicely with the rest of the symbolism of the franchise lmao).

As to the mysticism of the Xenomorphs in relation to their communication with Wendy, I actually didn’t view this as being an entirely new concept. In multiple movies there have been scenes where I believed humans and Xenomorphs to have a strange parent/child “connection”, symbolism which obviously stems from the way Xenomorphs are parasitically birthed from humans. Ripley 8 + Newborn, Kay + Offspring, David + Neomorph, all stood out to me as having this connection (although now as I type this out I guess I realize that most these examples are not typical humans nor typical Xenomorphs) BUT my point still stands that I had initially seen this as an expansion on something that has been hinted at before.

This connection isn’t to show Xenomorphs being “humanized”, but instead highlight their bastardization of humanity- Birthed from us, but twisted and animalistic (hey wait, this reminds me of that scene of Kirsh telling Wendy that she is “no longer an animal”, hmmmm……. I must reflect on this)

I just pray that they don’t try to make the Xenomorph a “good guy” in any way through its connection with Wendy, I need it to show it’s true nature and turn on her and everyone else!

Also I totally know what you mean with Boy Kavalier calling it a Xenomorph out of the blue, I was so shocked and tried to rack my brain to try and remember if that was the first time they referent to the alien by that name or not HAHAHAHHA I hope they clarify!!!!

In the opening moments of episode 4 while Kirsh, Dame and her husband are examining Wendy Kirsh calls the organism a xenomorph.  Right after that Boy walks in and he also calls it a xenomorph. I can't recall seeing a prior reference by Prodigy personnel so maybe they've reviewed the Weyland - Yutani files off screen.

Nibs seems to be having a psychotic break. Dame referees to this as a level 3 event, so they either have some prior experience with this or they already had a protocol for someone not adapting to the hybrid "upgrade".  Nibs was touched on the face by the eyeball monster's tentacles in episode 2 but managed to push it off.  Did the creature possibly implant something that could take over a synthetic just like it did the sheep?

Wendy's brother raised a great point - shouldn't the other kids families be there. Shouldn't there have been parties instead of funerals?  These kids are just property now - "human" lab rats if you will.

Not sure what Kirsh is up to. He knows about Morrow and Slightly's plan to face hug some but I don't know what he's going to do about it.

And lastly Wendy and her pet chest burster is just a bit much. I truly hope they are not planning a Jurassic World raptor whisperer type role for her.

 Maybe we will find out

I was wondering about that brief scene with Boy and Atom, while they are observing the eye creature attack the sheep. Boy slams the ball he always plays with into the glass, and Atom grabs it with the speed and agility of an Android. I wonder if this is a misdirect, or if Atom is secretly another one of Boy's Androids (like Kirsh). It would track that Boy Kavalier would not only surround himself with rnYes-Men, but would go so far as to create those Yes-Men himself.

@Fishy Friend those are good points, I totally forgot about the similar scenes Resurrection. That film was more coherent and better overall though imo despite being very silly at times.

True I guess we do get instances where Xenomorphs “speak” in previous films, namely Resurrection. David and the Neomorph was something of a pre-communication event but you could tell he was on his way – which is why David reacted so “emotionally” to the Neomorph being killed.

I assumed Kirsh had simply relayed Weyland-Yutani’s records and their reference of the creature as a Xenomorph, but again – lazy writing, this could have easily been referenced in a quick 3 second frame when he was scanning the records on the Maginot.

I’m giving this show benefit of the doubt and enjoying the ride for what it’s worth but the writing is pretty bad. Again, maybe it’s how my brain works but I like things to be organized and to assume the audiences will just assume they know what a Xenomorph is, is lazy writing.

This would make sense actually. With a name like Atom too, makes me wonder as well. His demeanour matches that of a Synthetic, much like David’s butler vibes in the prequels during his service to Weyland. I bet we see Atom and Kirsh knock heads soon, as you can see Kirsh disdain growing for Boy 😂 He’s so sick of his shit lol

lmao “Very silly” is such an accurate description for that movie <333 (love it to death though AHAHHA)

I also totally agree it was definitely more coherent and straight forward!! But on the other hand, TV shows gotta keep up the mystery so you stay interested, so maybe they’re being intentionally stingy with their reasonings for now… Hopefully it all starts to come together and makes sense soon. I guess that’s the drawback of weekly episodes, it interrupts the flow and it’s easier to forget and/or miss things!!

Ooooo wait you’re so right, I totally did not make that connection!! It reminds me of when Ash first woke up from cryo sleep, and they hint at him being an android while he’s doing his stretches…

And if you’re right, then his coldness to Hermit about Wendy not being human would make a lot of sense (while watching that I was like dang dude you’re an stone cold ice queen)

Maybe he has surrounded himself with synthetics as attempts to create someone as intellectually superior as himself, but they all failed to reach his level thus why he created the hybrids?
